Protect Your Email Address from SPAMbots and SpybotsSPAMbots and spybots are programs launched by mailing list vendors or users to harvest valid email addresses from web pages. These programs crawl web sites (much like the Google search engine), reading as many pages as they can, looking for text like "somename@domain.com" and, if found, recording the email address in its database. This address can then be used for that company's SPAM mail or sold to other companies as a valid email address (SPAM is the email equivalent of junk mail).
Many web site developers make the mistake of embedding in the web page source code the email address of the webmaster or other valid address on that domain, such as "support@domain.com" or "contact@domain.com" when setting up a contact form. However, there are techniques, such as the use of JavaScript and/or server-side scripting, that allow all the functionality of contact forms without revealing the recipient's email address to SPAMbots. We've incorporated both techniques on our contact form (use your browser "View Source" function to see if you can find our email address).
If you find that you're getting a lot of SPAM to your email address, it may be because you've put your address out there for all to see - and use. Contact PCV Software and we'll analyze your site to identify this and other potential security exposures, and provide you with the services necessary to eliminate them.
