Tip of the Week

Web Site Optimization

Will your web site be optimized for prformance, or will your users be waiting and waiting for your home page to load, and, perhaps, give up and move on to someone else's web site? The techniques used in web site optimization are designed to reduce the time to display your site's pages, to keep users (and potential customers) from waiting an inordinate amount of time to get the information they need to make a buying decision. Web Page Analyzer is a free web page analysis tool that calculates page size, composition, and download time. It also gives speed recommendations based on best practices for usability, human-computer interaction (HCI) and website optimization.

Optimization techniques can be tedious to apply retroactively, especially when most do not change the look of the web site at all. However, by compressing and combining images, reducing coding complexity, adhering to coding standards and best practices, and designing with performance as an initial goal of the effort, your user's experience with your site, and, ultimately, your business, can be significantly enhanced.

Here at PCV Software we can apply web site performance techniques to the design of your new site, or, by analyzing your current pages, help you decide where and when these techniques could improve the effectiveness of your existing site.
